General Session - Welcome

Session 1: "Sherlock Homeschooler"
Put on your plaid cap and get out your magnifying glass to explore the answers to questions that plague some parents: "What is wrong? Is it my teaching? Is it my child? Is it the curriculum? Or is this a behavior issue?" Learn some tools tohelp discern whether a learning difference is at the heart of the matter, instead of behavior being a matter of the heart.

Session 2: "It's Elementary, My Dear Watson" This kid is driving me crazy! Why is learning so difficult? Am I a bad teacher?" Get out that plaid cap and magnifying glass, and come discover some barriers to learning and how to hurdle them.

Dinner (included in registration, on campus)

Keynote Speaker, Will Kantz, MA, LPC
"The Spiritual Side of Raising a Special Needs Child"

Session 3: "Students in Their Right Minds"
Discover the differences between left and right-brain learners. Whether a child has ADD/HD, developmental delays, or autism spectrum disorders (or maybe you just can't put your finger on it...), parents will pick up usuable tips in this practical workshop. Celebrate the unique gifts of your child who learns differently by embracing meaningful strategies that will bring out the best in him!

Session 4: Parent Panel Q & A Discussion, Pat Harrell, Moderator
Panel: Will and Arlen Kantz, Jerry and LaNette Lathem, Leslie Stevens and Martha Sides.
Experienced parents of kids with various special needs answer your questions in an open forum format moderated by well known THSC Review magazine contributor and homeschool dad, Pat Harrell.

Saturday
Session 5: "Making Sense at Home"
Movers, shakers, and wigglers have sensory needs that sometimes interfere with learning. This 2 hour hands-on experience includes activities for kids who need some extra movement as they learn.

Lunch (included in registration, on campus)
Seating during lunch will be by region to foster dialogue with someone who may live close to you for support.

Session 6: "Heart to Heart for Dads"- Doug Arnold in Overflow Room
"Heart to Heart for Moms" - Patsy Arnold in Worship Center
With the divorce rate among parents of special needs children hovering in the range of 85%, Doug and Patsy want to take some time to talk separately with dads and moms about how to maintain a strong marriage in the midst of stress in the home.

Session 7: "Surviving and Thriving"
Families with special needs children have a choice to become bitter or better. Rise above the challenges and learn how to live, love and laugh in spite of the stress that a special needs child can bring into the home.
